Home Sweet Home offers a fresh spin on coastal living—where timeless style meets comfy, everyday vibes. Featured in Coastal Breeze News, Carole De Silva’s personalized approach goes beyond the ordinary, crafting spaces with warmth, personality, and a hint of modern farmhouse charm right here on Marco Island. Whether you crave earthy textures or elegant coastal touches, Carole’s mission is to make your home feel welcoming and uniquely yours—designed for real life, not just for show.

Furniture, art, mirrors, clocks, vases, items for the kitchen, lamps, pillows and throws are there to please the eye. So are plates and tumblers, charcuterie table paper, mats, greenery and florals.
All these and much more can be found at Marco’s newest home décor purveyor, the appropriately named Home Sweet Home Décor and Gifts. The Marco Town Center shop was opened in late November by Carole De Silva Piques and her husband, Tony Marrama.
Prior to opening the store, Piques researched the market, including taking stock of similar businesses on and near the island and what they provide. She found there was an unfilled niche that ideally suited the approach of her other Home Sweet Home store, located in her hometown of Grimsby, Ontario, since it opened two years ago.
Modern Farmhouse meets Coastal Contemporary
“When I did my research, I did look at a number of the stores that are there and I found that a lot of the stores deal with a little bit larger pieces, like larger furniture items,” she said. “I have some smaller items. I use the furniture in the store to basically create vignettes and I try to teach people how to take the smaller décor pieces home and duplicate at home what they see in the store. For example, people will take pictures of their living room and I’ll put things together that they can take home and create the look they want, from a design perspective.”
Home Sweet Home’s product line is enhanced by the expertise provided by Piques thanks to years of practical experience in creating attractive interiors. She cautioned that while she’s not formally trained in home decorating, she’s immersed herself in the craft since it became a childhood passion for herself and her twin sister. It’s an interest she’s also passed along to her children.
“It’s just the love of it, more than anything, and having the eye for it,” she explained. “I deal with every little bit of home décor; from the smell to the touch to the look, I try to deal with all the senses.”

The decision to open a second store and locate it here represents a labor of love for her, in a couple ways. One is being smitten by Marco, which she first visited about a decade ago. That feeling intensified with subsequent visits.
What was the second source of that incentive? “It’s because I love home décor, and I love the whole concept of a home décor store and running it and being able to make my customers happy,” explained Piques.
Home décor is just one of Piques’ professional profiles. She has worked in health care in Ontario for the last 20 years as a personal trainer, a registered massage therapist and for the last 10 years, as an osteopath and the owner of wellness clinics. For the last 10 to 15 years, she’s been flipping homes in Grimsby, today refurbishing them with her husband, who is a retired framer in the construction industry. Of course, she utilizes her decorating skills to give each home just the right look.

She said that the feedback they’re received from customers includes two oft-heard refrains: “We just don’t want to leave the island” and “This is exactly what Marco needed.”
“They can cross the bridge and go to Home Goods or Target, but the thing that sets us apart is when you go into any of those stores and look at a vase or whatever, the thing is, what are you going to do with it? People are lost as far as how to take that item and put it together with others. We help them by saying, ‘This is how you’re going to decorate this vignette or your dining room table.”
